Spellfins — Privacy Policy

In short: Spellfins is a learning app for young children. It does not collect, transmit, or share any personal information. Everything you do in the app stays on your own device. There are no accounts, no ads, no analytics, and no third‑party tracking.
Spellfins ("the app") is a letters, sounds, spelling and typing app for young children, developed by David Gebler ("we", "us", "our"). This policy explains how the app handles information. It applies to both the Android app and the web version of Spellfins.
Information the app handles — and where it stays
To remember a child's progress between sessions, the app saves a small amount of information locally on the device only (in the app's / browser's local storage):
- the first name or nickname you type on the welcome screen;
- learning progress and rewards (stickers, scores, completed rounds);
- your settings (chosen voice, speech speed, British/American letters, custom words).
This information never leaves the device. We do not receive it, store it on any server, or have any way to access it. It is not transmitted to us or to anyone else.
What we do not collect
- We do not collect names, email addresses, phone numbers, photos, or any other personal or contact information.
- We do not collect location data or device identifiers.
- We do not track users or build profiles, in or across apps or sites.
- We do not show advertising of any kind.
Permissions
The Android app requests no permissions at all. It has no access to the internet, location, camera, microphone, contacts, or storage outside its own private area.
Speech (text‑to‑speech)
Spellfins speaks letters and words aloud using your device's built‑in text‑to‑speech feature, handled entirely by your device's operating system. The app does not use the microphone, and does not record, store, or transmit any audio.
No third parties
The app contains no third‑party advertising networks, analytics tools, social‑media components, or other tracking software. No data is shared with, or sold to, any third party — because no data is collected in the first place.
Children's privacy
Spellfins is designed for young children and is intended to be used with a grown‑up. We have built the app so that there is simply no personal information to collect: nothing the child or parent enters ever leaves the device. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children under the age of 13 (or 16 in the European Economic Area / United Kingdom). This approach is intended to align with the U.S. Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA), the Google Play Families policy, and the UK/EU GDPR.
Using Spellfins on the web
The web version works the same way: progress and settings are stored only in your browser on your device, and are not sent to us. As with any website, the web server that hosts Spellfins may keep standard, short‑lived technical logs (such as IP address and browser type) for normal operation and security. These logs are not used to identify or track children and are never linked to anything stored inside the app.
Reviewing or deleting the information
Because everything is stored locally, you are always in control:
- Android: clear the app's data in your device settings, or uninstall the app.
- Web: clear your browser's site data for the page, or use a private/incognito window.
- You can also reset progress and settings from the "grown‑ups" area inside the app.
Data security
Information stays within the app's private storage on your own device and is protected by your device's own security. Because nothing is transmitted or stored remotely, there is no server‑side database of user information that could be exposed.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we will update the "Last updated" date above and post the new version at the same address. Material changes will be reflected before they take effect.
